Welcome
We are all aware that Williams Deacon’s Bank disappeared many more years ago than we care to remember. Those of us who went on to retire as employees of RBS or its subsidiaries generally still have an affection for and a sense of belonging to the old bank and more particularly to our colleagues. This web site has been set up to help those colleagues to stay in touch and to generally provide information and interest.
The site was originally set up following comments made after John Dawson had decided
to arrange a lunch in London for WD pensioners back in 2007. Since its inception
however, contact has been made with a number of ex colleagues in other parts of the
country and we are very happy to hear from WD pensioners whichever part of the country
they worked or now live. If you wish to contact former colleagues, please let us
know and we will do our best to put you in touch.
John David Dawson
A tribute to John now appears on the Lives Remembered page. Please click here.
Reference is made to an armed robbery at Tottenham Court Road in which John was involved. Although a serious incident, there are elements of the story that would be more at home in a Carry On film. Some of you will be familiar with the events but for those of you who are not, you might be interested to know that the magazine 50+ will be publishing John’s story in the next issue. John had submitted this to the editor a little before his death.
New contact names
Please see the Contacts page for details of to whom you should now speak or write to.
We hope that everyone will visit the site from time to time and would encourage you all to make comments (good or bad) and let us have any suggestions for additions to the site. We would also appreciate receiving any news that can be incorporated in the newsletter.
John Dawson (1933 - 2011), who came up with the idea of setting up a Williams Deacon’s Pensioners Group and who passed away in June of this year.
